VR controller support for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator is ‘in the works’, Eurogamer reported in an interview article.
Asobo Studio launched support for VR headsets on December 22, but you are limited to using a mouse + keyboard, gamepad or flight stick. A stick is the ideal way to play, of course, but it makes the game setup and menu navigation somewhat complicated.
The studio has yet to detail how the VR controller support will work. At a minimum, it should allow you to navigate the game menus more easily with a laser pointer. Hopefully, it also brings support for direct interaction with the cabin controls with your hands – we’ve seen this in games like VTOL VR and Aerofly FS 2.
In the Eurogamer interview, Microsoft Flight Simulator boss Jorg Neumann also spoke about the effort needed to make VR work smoothly: “With VR, you need to be very disciplined. We found a lot of gigabytes and it’s a little bit better.“
That said, we’ve heard widespread reports of VR performance problems even on the most advanced hardware. A game with a large number of objects and fine details like this would never run on most PCs, but we will continue testing with each new patch to see if Microsoft can bring any magic to VR users.
