Urban Meyer and the Jaguars struck a deal on Thursday to make him the franchise’s new coach.
In a video on the team’s website, Meyer discussed what led him to return to coaching a few years after he mentioned health concerns for having resigned from Ohio State. Meyer said he “heard that this is the best job available” and that he got the same impression after looking at what the Jags have to offer.
“It had to be perfect,” said Meyer of returning to the coach. “This was not an instinctive reaction. This is something that I have been studying for a long time. Not necessarily this job, but only the NFL. The opportunity presented itself and if it is to watch a movie, study the list, understand the salary cap, understand what we have at our disposal with choice # 1, the fact that I love Jacksonville. . . Duval and 904 deserve a chance to win. “
Meyer said the winning process “starts with hiring an elite team” and that will be the focus of his early days in his new role.
