Apple CEO Tim Cook made an announcement on Wednesday and said that everyone involved in the January 6 siege of the United States Capitol should be held “accountable”.
Apple’s chief executive spoke with “CBS This Morning presenter “Gayle King to speak about an unspecified company announcement scheduled for January 13. During the scheduled interview, however, King asked Cook about the attack on the Capitol.
“I think it is critical that people be held responsible for this,” said Cook. “This is not something you should skate on. It is something that we have to take very seriously and understand. And then we need to move on.”
When asked whether President Donald Trump should be held responsible for his part in inciting the riot, Cook did not mention the president’s name, but said that everyone involved should be held responsible.
“I don’t think anyone is above the law. I mean, this is a great thing about our country, and we are a country with the rule of law,” said Cook. “I think that everyone who took part in this needs to be held accountable.”
In the wake of the attack on the Capitol, Apple took steps to remove the conservative-trend social media platform Parler from the App Store because of its failure to moderate content that may have incited the violence.
The comments about the siege of the Capitol and President Trump were only small fragments of a longer interview than “CBS This Morning “is scheduled to launch on Wednesday. The previously scheduled interview was arranged for a different purpose, noted King. Cook agreed to comment on the situation on Capitol Hill.
It is unclear what the interview will be about, although King said it was a significant company announcement. She said it is not a new product, but “something bigger and better” which is “very exciting”. Tuesday’s clip contained few clues about the announcement, although the interview itself was conducted remotely with King at an Apple Store and Cook speaking at Apple Park in Cupertino.
With regard to pending ads, Apple has not yet launched the App Tracking Transparency feature that promised to arrive in early 2021. The fact that the announcement is taking place in the middle of CES 2021 may be noteworthy, since Apple has promote your privacy policies during the annual technology showcase in the past.
