Well, it didn’t take long.
A woman in Sherbrooke who was stopped after curfew with her partner on a leash told police that she was taking her pet for a walk.
The couple were spotted by Sherbrooke police at 9 pm on Saturday, an hour after the curfew across Quebec, from 8 pm to 5 am.
The couple walked on the sidewalk towards the city center, with the man on a leash.
Warned that they were breaking the regulations and that they could be subject to fines of more than $ 1,500 each, the couple “did not cooperate in anything,” said police spokeswoman Isabelle Gendron.
“One of them had the other on a leash and she said she was taking her dog, pointing at her partner, for a walk, as allowed by the exceptions provided by the Quebec premier under his curfew law.”
The woman is 24 years old, her partner 40.
Quebec’s curfew regulations allow dog owners to take their canine companions outside after 8 pm, as long as they are less than a kilometer from their homes. The police tried to explain the true nature of the legislation, but the couple replied that it would be a “pleasure” to receive the fines and “it would not prevent them from breaking the rules in the future and would see how many tickets they could obtain,” said Gendron.
