Graham, as president and high-ranking senator, has a security group, but many lawmakers, especially in the House, do not. Several lawmakers have expressed particular concerns that they may not only be confronted verbally, but threatened more dramatically in the coming days and weeks.
The increase in airport security comes days after the Trump-backed siege of the Capitol terrified lawmakers and officials and exposed deadly flaws in security measures at the complex.
The effort is the result of a partnership between the Sergeant of Arms, the Capitol Police, the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority and the United States Air Marshal, according to the announcement.
Members are encouraged to send their flight itinerary directly to security personnel to ensure that there is adequate protection.
