Ford Mustang Bullitt faces Lexus LC500 in a very green V8 dash

For fans of the film, Bullitt, the latest Ford Mustang Bullitt must be something to be excited about – or at least we think it is. The Highland Green painting is a tribute to the iconic car chase from the film that involved a 1968 Ford Mustang GT390 Fastback.

With the Shelby GT350 intake manifold, throttle body and air box, the Bullitt Mustang has a few extra ponies compared to a regular Ford Mustang GT. 20 extra ponies, to be exact – not much, we know, but there’s the Shelby GT500 Mustang for anyone who wants very More.

What we didn’t know, however, is that the Bullitt Mustang matches a Japanese coupé in terms of power. We are talking about the Lexus LC500, and in this video Carwow, also comes in green and they are going for a drag race.

Both coupes are powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine with natural aspiration. Both do around the same engine power, sent to the rear wheels. The main differences between the two are prices, weights and transmissions.

The LC500, being a luxury vehicle, is more expensive than the Mustang Bullitt, while the pony car comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission as opposed to the Japanese coupe’s 10-speed automatic.

Weight is another factor, and that is where the Mustang has a big advantage, since the LC500 is heavier by at least 100 kilos (220 pounds).

Considering the similarities and differences between the two, and the fact that the race took place amid heavy rain, who do you think won the race in a straight line? Watch the video at the top of this page and see how one of the different factors affected the results.
