GamesIndustry.biz is back with its annual forecasts for the year, and it seems that industry experts think it is about to be a great year for Nintendo.
Mat Piscatella of NPD, Dr. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games and Piers Harding-Rolls of Ampere Analysis predicted that the Switch family would be the best-selling console of 2021 and, although Piscatella was not convinced that Nintendo would launch a new model, the the last two disagree.
When asked about his first forecast for 2021, Dr. Toto begins with the launch of the Switch Pro. “I foresee an enhanced 4K device coming during Nintendo’s next financial year,” he said in an interview with GI.biz. However, last year, Dr. Toto predicted a “spectacular Nintendo mobile game” – a prediction he says is false (no love for Pokémon Café Mix, then). He adds that “Change is just a word”, but we are not fully unclear what that means. It’s … a little threatening, actually.
Harding-Rolls is a little more reserved when it comes to Nintendo’s next move. Last year, he said the release of Switch Pro was “unlikely” in 2020 – and he was right. Now, he says the Switch Pro would make “commercial sense”, and that he currently has it in his 2021 predictions.
We don’t know anything, of course, but after many years of rumors about Switch Pro, we are understandably cautious, even if the new predictions come from people who are paid to do these things.
Could 2021 be the year of Nintendo’s 4K games, anyway? Would you upgrade to a Switch Pro if you had a choice? Discuss in the comments below!
