Young Lexington hit by bullet on New Year’s Eve

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A girl was hit by a bullet while she was inside her home on New Year’s Eve in Lexington.

Police said they had received dozens of gunfire calls throughout the night, which is not uncommon on New Year’s Eve.

But just before midnight, police were called to block 400 on East Sixth Street because of a report of a young man being wounded by gunfire.

Police said several shots entered the house and hit a girl under the age of 10.

The child was taken to the hospital with what the police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The police told WKYT that they did not suspect the house was a target.

About an hour later, police were called to nearby Race Street to find out that another house had been damaged by gunfire.

Two adults and four young people were inside the house. No one was hurt in that incident.
