After days of silence amid multiple accusations of sexual misconduct, designer Alexander Wang released a statement denying all charges made against him.
“In the past few days, I have been receiving unfounded and grotesquely false accusations,” said Wang. “These allegations were unfairly amplified by infamous social media accounts for posting defamatory material from undisclosed and / or anonymous sources, without any evidence or any factual verification. Seeing these lies about me being perpetuated as truths was infuriating. I have never been involved in the atrocious behavior described and I would never behave the way it was alleged. I intend to get to the bottom of this and hold anyone responsible for originating these claims and disseminating them viciously online. “
The Instagram account of industry watcher @ShitModelMgmt first posted anonymous stories about the New York designer drugging and sexually harassing or assaulting male and trans models. These stories came after a model named Owen Mooney claimed that a “very famous stylist” groped him inside a club in 2017.
“I was alone at one point and this guy next to me obviously took advantage of the fact that no one could move and he just started, like, touching me,” said Mooney. “And totally like, in my leg, in my groin, as if it made me freeze completely because I was in shock.” He later confirmed that the man he was referring to was Wang.
@ShitModelMgmt spent much of this week posting screenshots of anonymous direct messages where the writers accuse Wang of predation. Some of the allegations share a similar theme: these victims claim that Wang offered them bottles of water that they did not know contained MDMA. These stories remain unverified.
