98 new deaths, 269 new cases in Orange County on March 6 – Orange County Register

Ninety-eight deaths were reported by Orange County public health officials on Saturday, March 6, increasing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 4,173.

Data on deaths in the county are compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on February 25.

The Orange County Health Agency reported 269 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 247,641 cases since the screening began.

The county also reported 321 patients in local hospitals. There were 87 patients listed in intensive care units on Saturday, down 18 from the previous report. The hospital’s patient totals are almost at the same level as they were in mid-November.

The California Department of Public Health vaccine panel shows that 832,948 doses of vaccines were distributed in Orange County on March 5.

It is estimated that 3,009 cases of the virus have been reported in Orange County in the last 14 days. The average number of cases over 14 days was 3,759 on 28 February.

The county update said 3,104,730 tests for coronavirus have been performed since the tests started locally, with at least 11,188 new tests since the previous report.

Of the 4,173 cumulative deaths reported by the virus, 991 were qualified nursing residents, 471 were in assisted living facilities, one was an OC inmate and 10 were listed as homeless.

The breakdown of deaths by age in the county is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 32.64% (1,362, up to 29)
  • 75-84: 24.35% (1,016, up to 20)
  • 65-74: 19.34% (807, up to 18)
  • 55-64: 13.8% (576, up to 20)
  • 45-54: 6.45% (269, up to 6)
  • 35-44: 2.18% (91, up to 3)
  • 25-34: 1.01% (42, up to 2)
  • 18-24: 0.22% (9)
  • 17 and younger: 0.02% (1)

It is estimated that 236,047 people recovered from the virus by Saturday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the cumulative case count from the previous 28 days.
