An explosion on 2nd Avenue in downtown Nashville is causing widespread disruptions to AT&T service, as well as 911 emergency services across Tennessee and southern Kentucky, including Christian and Trigg counties.
Hopkinsville-Christian County Emergency Communications Center officials say they cannot accept calls due to a problem with AT&T. Currently, authorities say they can only accept text messages. If you have an emergency, send a 9-1-1 text message.
Trigg County Dispatch officials say that if you have a county emergency, call (270) 522-4636. They add that this is for emergency calls only. If the number is busy, they ask you to keep calling.
In the meantime, Kentucky State Police spokesman Trooper Rob Austin said they are also facing serious problems regarding calls received at the dispatch center at Post 1 in Hickory. He confirms that dispatch centers in Area 911 in the Post 1 district and some in the Post 2-Madisonville district are reporting outages. He adds that the dispatch at post 1 is receiving emergency calls to 911 from Verizon operators at this time. However, he says that if someone is calling the AT&T network, you may not be able to.
According to Trooper Austin, they are requesting that the public in the Post 1 district, who is unable to call 911, use the following telephone numbers: 502-395-1698, 502-395-1691, 502-682-0379, 502-682 -1025. The public can also call the Mayfield Police Department dispatch line at 270-856-3749 and 270-856-4013.
Whether you call to report an emergency or not, Trooper Austin asks you to be patient with dispatch personnel, as Station 1 is receiving all calls right now. In addition, it says that you need to notify dispatch personnel about your location so that first aid can respond in the correct location.
