90 out of 95 tests in a Michigan prison for the highly contagious UK variant COVID tested positive

Ionia, Michigan – Michigan officials said on Tuesday that at least 90 cases of the highly contagious COVID-19 variant first identified in the UK have been confirmed in a prison here. Department of Health and Human Services officials said that only five of the 95 tests administered did not produce positive results.

In addition, the results of another 100 tests at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility were still pending as of Tuesday night.

All but two of the 90 people with a positive result were inmates. The other two were officials, officials said.

The test started in prison after an employee was discovered with the variant.

But officials pointed out that the number of positive results from COVIDA began to decline as soon as daily testing began.

Additional precautions against COVID were put in place at the facility as soon as the variant was found there, officials added. The daily test was one of the new steps.
