Mondays 9-1-1 late winter certainly lived up to the title, with several characters being taken to a “breaking point”.
For Hen, this happened when Mia’s social worker appeared to inform her and Karen that Mia’s birth mother is ready to begin the reunification process. It was literally the worst fear of adoptive mothers, who expected the social worker to come and talk about adoption.
“It’s the beginning of a heartbreaking story, let’s put it that way,” showrunner Tim Minear told TVLine. “It is definitely something that happens. Not every child who is placed in an orphanage is placed there because their birth parents are some kind of monster. Sometimes, it’s just the situation. And we are definitely interested in telling this complete story. “
Speaking of the parental drama, Chimney explained to Maddie that he would break it if something went wrong with her delivery, which was part of his plea to have her baby in a hospital versus trying to deliver at home. A follow-up chat with Athena – in which she recalled that May and Harry’s births were the two best days of her life, despite one pregnancy being more difficult than the other – helped Maddie to understand that “it doesn’t matter if you have a child in the parking lot, at the hospital or at home. ”(As for the future of their relationship, Minear confirms that although they are” taking it one step at a time “, the subject of the wedding will come up in the conversation.)
And then there was Buck, who got more than he expected when he invited his old crush, Taylor, to dinner – which she quickly realized was just to make Albert’s new girlfriend (also known as Buck’s one date) jealous. “If that’s how you treat your friends, maybe the problem isn’t Albert,” she said. “Is that you.”
“She was 100% right,” says Minear of Taylor’s claim that Buck just can’t stand not being liked by someone. “Why else would he care that this woman he didn’t get along with for 90 minutes is now dating his roommate? It’s because she liked him more than Buck. He is a labrador retriever. “
Moving on, “what Buck needs to understand is that some people are not going to like him. What he is discovering in Taylor is someone who will take him seriously. She will not tolerate a lot of bullshit and will complain about him. She is someone who can be a true friend to him, and that could be something more. “
But while Buck remains desperately single (for now), Eddie tried to make things official with Ana, only to discover that Christopher may not yet be ready for Eddie to “replace” his mother. Still, Minear says: “I think there is definitely hope for them. They have great chemistry. And I don’t think anything is 100 percent resolved for any of those people.
And while we’re talking about Christopher, let’s all take a moment to appreciate “aww!” This week – scene induced between him and Buck:
Looking at the second half of the season – which starts with the spring premiere on April 19 (8 / 7c) – Minear says there are several major events we can expect, including the birth of Maddie and Chimney’s baby. But be warned, they are not all Good.
“There has been a trend since last season that Bobby really wants to be with Athena, but she is fiercely independent,” he jokes. “Bobby is going to start questioning how much she might really need him, and it will definitely put a strain on their marriage.”
