83-year-old man in the ICU after being tied up, gagged and mugged at the northern Philadelphia home on New Year’s Eve – CBS Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – An 83-year-old man is in the intensive care unit after being tied up, gagged and mugged inside his home in northern Philadelphia on New Year’s Eve. Tonight, your family is begging for answers.

“Honestly, I’m still skeptical,” said Geo Gesmundo.

Gesmundo is nervous.

His 83-year-old father was beaten on New Year’s Eve by intruders who broke into his home in North Philly and gagged him.

“I fixed my legs with tape, my arms,” said Gesmundo, “I put tape on my mouth and around my head”

Gesmundo showed Eyewitness News this photo of Mauricio Gesmundo, now in the ICU of Temple University Hospital with brain bleeding, but in a stable state.

Police said he was beaten with clenched fists around his head and face and was not found until his family returned home on 3900 block from Fairhill Street after celebrating the New Year.

Authorities said no arrests were made while the investigation continued.

But whoever did this escaped with more than $ 30,000 at home, too, according to the police.

“I just don’t understand how anyone can do this to any human being, let alone an 83-year-old man,” said Gesmundo.

Gesmundo said his father has lived in the house for 41 years and wants justice for a man he describes as someone who would do anything for his family and his community.

“And if there is someone on my father’s street who witnessed something, we are just waiting for someone to speak,” said Gesmundo.
