760,000 pounds of warm pockets are being recovered for fear of glass and plastic

Nestlé Prepared Foods released a recall involving hundreds of thousands of pounds of Pepperoni Hot Pockets, which they fear contains glass and plastic.

The recall was issued by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Inspection and Safety Service (FSIS) on Friday and affects approximately 762,615 pounds of Pepperoni Premium Hot Pockets Pizza with Garlic Buttery Crust. The company fears that these Hot Pockets “may be contaminated with foreign materials, specifically pieces of glass and rigid plastic”.

The recall took effect after authorities received four complaints from consumers about “foreign material” in the product. FSIS received a “minor oral injury” report associated with the consumption of the affected Hot Pockets. The recall was categorized as a Class I recall, in which there is a “reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious and adverse consequences to health or death”.

The affected Hot Pockets specifically have the date and batch codes 0318544624, 0319544614, 0320544614 and 0321544614, as well as an “expiration date before” February 2022 on the boxes and “EST. 7721A ”within the USDA inspection mark. You can see the complete product information in the recall here.

These Hot Pockets were produced from November 13, 2020 to November 16, 2020 and were distributed to stores across the country. As the product has a shelf life of 14 months, FSIS said in its statement that it fears that these boxes may still be in people’s freezers. If you discover that you have one of the affected boxes in your freezer, FSIS recommends that you do not consume it, but instead throw it away or return it to your place of purchase.
