The body of a 70-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a double murder was found in a lake in Tennessee on Saturday, officials said.
David Vowell’s body was found about 3 pm in the waters of Lake Reelfoot in Obion County, about 50 miles north of Jackson, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tweeted.
The discovery came after the bureau said on Friday that it was joining the US Marshals, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Obion County Sheriff’s Office to search for Vowell in and around the lake.
His body was discovered “close to the incident area,” the agency said. Monday’s double homicide occurred at the northern end of Lake Reelfoot, officials said.
The investigators did not reveal how the victims, Chance Black, 26, and Zachery Grooms, 25, both from Weakly County, were killed. But Vowell was described by the police as armed and dangerous.
A Vowell arrest warrant based on two counts of first-degree murder was approved on Tuesday, the agency said. Authorities said he had no history of criminal arrests in Tennessee.
An autopsy to determine the cause of Vowell’s death was planned, the agency said.
