7 Top Tips for Mastering Outbreak in the Cold War Black Ops

Outbreak is the latest version of the popular Call of Duty Zombies mode. We present 7 mandatory tips to help you survive longer and perform better.

When the initial announcement for Season 2 of Black Ops Cold War was announced, no one was sure what to expect in the new Outbreak mode. Treyarch has promoted it as the biggest zombie approach to date.

The expansive Zombies mode is unlike anything we’ve seen before and incorporates elements of the expansive nature of Warzone’s extensive maps with its new addition of Zombies. Outbreak is a welcome change of pace that can be a lot of fun to play, and here are the seven best tips to get you started.

1. Do all parallel activities

In addition to the main goals you will see at Outbreak, the round you are in will usually have two or three extracurricular activities for you to do.

Recurring side missions will include the hungry dragon that requires you to kill zombies within a specially designated ring. There is also a recording that, when activated, teleports into some Megatons or other difficult enemies, requiring you to kill them. Both usually appear in all rounds and are a consistent way to increase your points.

2. Find the floating essence

Players who engage in Fireteam modes will already be quite familiar with the maps used in Outbreak, as they are exactly the same.

Many of the maps have buildings and towers and what you need to know is that in Outbreak they contain a lot of valuable Essence to find. You can usually find bottles of Essence around the map that give you 100 points, but the largest floats will yield you an incredible 500 points. Make sure to look for them.

3. Listen to loot drop audio tips

We don’t need to tell you the importance of finding regular loot chests in Outbreak. Legendary weapons, free armor / damage upgrades, materials, and more can all be found in these needs.

You will know when you are near one of them, as they emit a distinctive beep-boop sound – sometimes accompanied by a child’s laughter. Don’t worry about monopolizing them, as they are spread all over the map you are on and there is a lot to do.

4. Maximize your points total

Needless to say, your best chances of survival depend on you winning a lot of points and investing them wisely.

In addition to parallel activities and discovering the essence, there are also other things you can do to keep your score rising. Killing at long range will yield extra long-shot points, stunning grenades thrown at large groups of zombies will do wonders and the “Ring of Fire” equipment can reward many bonus points for kills and assists.

5. Pack your weapon

With all those extra points in the bag, you need to make sure you are not wasting them. Above all, packing your weapon is an absolute must if you want to survive while the zombies get stronger and get stronger quickly.

Now, which weapon you select obviously depends on you, but it has to be said that certain weapons are better equipped to handle the stringent demands of later rounds, such as LMGs.

6. Collect materials and make sure to use them

It is so easy to discard materials when you are in the middle of Outbreak, but you should never underestimate how much they are really needed.

Materials can improve your weapon’s damage, your armor’s sturdiness, and purchase superpowered scores as a Chopper Gunner.

7. Get the items

A final reminder is to be sure to be vigilant and to constantly check the surrounding area to see what items have been left as a gift by the undead.

They can drop all sorts of useful equipment that should never be ridiculed. In addition to the obvious fact that they can inflict a great deal of damage, as we said, they can also guarantee additional points. Frag Grenades, Semtex and C4 are great for crowd control, and if you are lucky enough to get a Cymbal Monkey, then you should feel more secure.
