At least 7 people were injured after a New York accordion-type bus pulled off the road and half of it hung from an overpass.
A police spokesman said the driver of the BX-35 bus “was unable to navigate the road and turned off the road” near the Cross Bronx Expressway and University Avenue around 11 pm on Thursday. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no arrests were made.
Six of the injured were bus passengers and the other was the driver, and they were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police and MTA spokesman Tim Minton.
The FDNY later said there were nine people injured in total. It is not clear whether the other two are also passengers.
Minton said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the incident. He said the bus driver’s route calls for a left turn on the expressway, but for some reason, the bus missed the conversion.
The Citizen App videos show a massive police response to the scene and many people gathering to take pictures and videos.
Delays are expected in the area until a crane arrives to remove the bus from the bridge.
