The Chargers fired coach Anthony Lynn on Monday, a day after the team ended the 2020 season with a 7-9 record. Lynn ended with a 33-31 record in her four seasons with the Chargers.

Lynn, hired in 2017, started out leading the Chargers in consecutive winning seasons, including a 12-4 record and a playoff victory over the Baltimore Ravens in 2018. But the team has regressed significantly in the past two seasons, partly due to the terrible luck of injury, and Lynn’s limitations as a game and time manager were exposed in a series of defeats. The Chargers finished 5 to 11 in 2019, and a team that has dealt with significant injuries this season has fought again, despite a record debut season for quarterback Justin Herbert.
