64 more deaths related to COVID-19, number of deaths above 4,300

EDITOR’S NOTE: The daily numbers we report do not match the numbers the state is reporting for each day. Every day at 10am, we take the previous day’s numbers from 10am and subtract them with the current state numbers at 10am. Instead of reporting a day ago, we want to provide the most up-to-date information. For Black Hawk and Linn counties, we are reporting the COVID-19 site numbers for their counties. For Johnson and Dubuque counties, we are providing numbers for the state website.

IOWA

(KWWL) – There were 1,333 new cases confirmed from 10am Friday to 10am Saturday, according to the state panel, which raises the total number of cases in the state to 304,122.

The state website reports that of 304,122 people who tested positive, 265,317 recovered. There are 1,481 more recoveries than the state reported on Friday

The death toll in the state is 4,321, 64 more than reported on Friday.

Subtracting the number of recoveries (265,317) and the number of deaths (4,321) from the total number of cases (304,122), we see that there are currently 34,484 positive cases active in the state.

There have been 80 patients hospitalized in Iowa in the past 24 hours and the total number of hospitalizations is 505, which is below 513. Of those hospitalizations, 91 are in the ICU (the same as yesterday), and 39 are on ventilators (over 35 ).

In Iowa, there were 4,141 new tests performed in the last 24 hours and a total of 1,418,946 people were tested for COVID-19. The positivity rate in the last 24 hours (1,333 positive tests divided by 4,141 tests provided) is 32.2 percent.

According to the state’s latest vaccine report, released on Friday, 118,991 total doses were administered to Iowa residents, with more than 11,000 completing the series. On Friday, 4,362 residents of Black Hawk County, 8,753 residents of Linn County, 11,502 residents of Johnson County and 4,407 residents of Dubuque County received the vaccine. Iowa is currently in Phase 1a of the vaccine launch, which means that doses are being distributed to healthcare professionals and residents and staff at long-term care facilities. Phase 1b will begin on February 1st.

BLACK HAWK COUNTY

From 10am on Saturday, the Black Hawk COVID-19 panel has been presenting 59 new cases since 10 am on Friday, leaving a total of 14,454 cases (13,616 positive cases for PCR and antigen and 838 positive cases for serology). There were 73 additional recoveries in the municipality, for a total of 12,181. There were eight additional deaths, leaving a total of 236 deaths. The county’s average 14-day positivity rate is 10.9 percent.

LINN COUNTY

From 10am on Saturday, the COVID-19 panel from Linn County has been presenting 53 new cases since 10 am on Friday, leaving a total of 17,622 cases. There were 65 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 15,267 recoveries. There were no additional deaths, leaving a total of 250 deaths. Currently, there are 22 patients admitted to the municipality. The county’s average 14-day positivity rate is 9 percent.

JOHNSON COUNTY

According status panel At 10am on Saturday, there are 73 new positive cases reported in Johnson County since 10am on Friday. This brings the total to 12,000 reported cases. There were 36 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 10,515 recoveries. There were no additional deaths, leaving a total of 49 deaths. The county’s average 14-day positivity rate is 11 percent.

DUBBLE COUNTY

According status panel at 10 am on Saturday, there were 46 additional positive cases reported in Dubuque County since 10 am on Friday. This brings the total to 11,283 reported cases. There were 27 additional recoveries reported, leaving a total of 10,129. There was an additional reported death, leaving a total of 149 deaths. The county’s average 14-day positivity rate is 11 percent.
