615 hospitalized patients with COVID-19; SAWS says boil warning lifted in parts of San Antonio

SANTO ANTÓNIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff updated the community on the local response to COVID-19 and the winter weather in their Saturday night briefing.

For the first time in the week, Mayor Nirenberg reported some data received on coronavirus cases in Bexar County. On Saturday, Nirenberg reported 107 cases of coronavirus and seven deaths.

The mayor also reported that 615 patients are hospitalized, minus 81 on Friday, 232 are in the intensive care unit and 141 are on ventilators.

There have been 62 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, said Nirenberg.

CPS Power

Nirenberg said that CPS Energy has almost finished restoring power in the San Antonio region. All but 40 customers had their power restored on Saturday night.

Although, CPS Energy officials said that a vehicle collided with a pole during Friday night, leaving 1,630 customers living near Cupples Road and Menefee Boulevard without power. However, these customers have had their power restored, Nirenberg reiterated.

The energy company is now working to slow down the billing process for customers in order to remove the impact of this week’s winter weather conditions.

Customers are advised not to worry about their bills now and the service will not be disconnected if they are unable to pay at this time. To learn more about it, click here.

San Antonio Water System

San Antonio Water System CEO Robert Puente announced on Saturday at the meeting that parts of San Antonio had been released from the boiling water notice. This means that they no longer need to boil the water before consuming it. For more information on which areas are no longer under the boil warning, click here.

Customers who are still under the boil warning may not be short of water, but short of pressure. Puente estimates that most of these problems will be resolved on Monday.

Still 10% or 9% of the San Antonio region has no water, according to the SAWS, but the teams are still working on restoration efforts.
