Christian Bale will meet with Hostiles director Scott Cooper for the gothic horror thriller, which CAA Media Finance, Endeavor Content and MadRiver were selling at Berlin’s European Film Market.
Netflix closed another big deal on the European Film Market, losing about $ 55 million for worldwide rights to Christian Bale’s gothic horror thriller The Pale Blue Eye director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black mass)
The film focuses on an attempt to solve a series of murders that took place at the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1830. Oscar winner Bale meets Cooper, director of the Hostiles of the West 2017, as a veteran detective investigating the murders. helped by a young cadet who would later become the world famous author, Edgar Allan Poe. Cooper wrote the script, an adaptation of the Louis Bayard novel of the same name.
Netflix surpassed the offer of several competitors to secure worldwide rights to the film. CAA Media Finance and Endeavor Content managed domestic sales in The Pale Blue Eye, with MadRiver handling internationally.
Cross Creek, producers of The Chicago Trial 7 —That Netflix bought last summer in a worldwide deal after the film could not be released in theaters because of COVID-19 – are the producers of The Pale Blue Eye. Bale and Cooper produce together with bird Man producer John Lesher and Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek.
The film should start shooting this fall, after Bale’s duties in Taika Waititi’s Marvel film Thor: love and thunder and David O Russell’s untitled film, both currently in production.
The streaming giant is on a shopping spree in this year’s entirely virtual European film market, previously signing a pair of 8-digit deals: paying about $ 15 million for North American and Latin American rights for the film.
