THE Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 , the supposed successor to Ring’s top-of-the-line Video Doorbell Pro, was officially confirmed this week. The powered bell is available for book now, and will go on sale on March 31 in the U.S. and the UK and on April 1 in Australia.
Superficially, Ring’s latest smart doorbell looks like its predecessor, Ring Video Doorbell Pro, but Ring has made a number of adjustments under the hood that, he says, make it the most advanced wired video doorbell of the brand to date. As you would expect, Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is also the company’s most expensive video doorbell, priced at $ 249.99 / £ 219 / AU $ 399.99.
We picked out a few things we love about the new Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2, as well as some features that we were disappointed not to see in Ring’s next-generation wired doorbell.

Best resolution
The biggest improvement to come with Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is the increase in resolution: the video is now recorded at 1526 x 1536 as opposed to the Full HD footage from Ring Video Doorbell Pro. equality with its rival, Arlo Video Doorbell, and means that the video will be clearer, with details clearly visible.
Head to toe view
Another positive change with the new model is that, thanks to a 150 square degree field of view, you can now see the total length of anyone at your door, including any packages on the floor at the feet, allowing you to track your deliveries with more easily.
Fewer unwanted motion alerts
For the first time for Ring, Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 includes a radar that can be used to set ‘virtual’ limits, so the doorbell only starts recording and sends movement alerts if an object or person crosses that limit. According to Ring, this should reduce the number of false positives – a person passing through your property, for example – activity alerts. Radar is also used in the new ‘Bird Eye View’ feature, which provides an aerial map of the exact path the object or person traveled to provide a better understanding of what triggered the activity alert.
More front plate options
Unlike Ring Video Doorbell Pro, which came with four front panel tones in the box, Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 comes with only one silver unit. However, once the latter has been set up, you will receive a voucher that can be exchanged for another panel for free. There are 16 colors to choose from, including red, green and purple, so you can make your video doorbell look as striking or unobtrusive as you wish.
Alexa greetings
In the USA, Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 will support the Alexa greetings , which allows Amazon’s voice assistant to “answer” the door and write down a message if you can’t do it yourself. The feature has already been introduced in Ring Video Doorbell Pro and is one of three ‘Smart Responses’ being launched, although not all are available on all models. However, there is no information on whether Alexa Greetings and other smart responses will be available in regions outside the United States.
Lack of color night vision
Ring says the new Video Doorbell Pro 2 will come with colorful night vision. When pressed, the company declined to elaborate on the feature, but said it would work similarly to the existing Ring Video Doorbell Pro. This means that it is not a colorful night vision; instead, it is color night vision, where the simulated color is applied to areas of ambient light in the video. At the moment, none of the best video bells feature color night vision, and including the feature would have been a good way for Ring to stand out from the crowd.
Facial recognition
Google’s rival for Ring Video Doorbell Pro comes with facial recognition. Nest Hello captures all faces that approach the door, allowing you to tag those that belong to your family and friends. The next time they arrive or leave, you will receive a notification stating who you are – which can provide great peace of mind, especially if you have children who are traveling to school and coming back alone. We love this feature, and considering that Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is similar in price to Nest Hello, we think it would have been a good way to compete with its rival.
