The San Francisco 49ers announced today that the team has hired TE Ross Dwelley and S Marcell Harris for one-year extensions. In addition, the team declined the 2021 contract option for LB Mark Nzeocha.
Dwelley (6-5, 235) appeared in all 16 games (nine matches) in 2020 and set career records for receptions (19) and receiving yards (245) to go along with a receiving touchdown. He also added three tackles on special teams. Dwelley served as a critical reserve for George Kittle and even occasionally took the place of defender for Kyle Juszczyk. Dwelley is a popular figure in the locker room.
Harris (6-0, 215) was in action on a career record in 16 games (four games) last season and ended with 29 tackles, three saved passes, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He also recorded nine tackles and a fumble recovery on special teams. Harris struggled to cover the field he was on, but he improved his attack last season and remained an aggressive defender.
Nzeocha (6-3, 240) originally signed with San Francisco outside the Dallas Cowboys training team on September 25, 2017. In the past four seasons (2017-20) with the 49ers, he has appeared in 47 games (three matches ) and there were 19 tackles and two defended passes, a sack, an interception and a forced fumble. He also added 20 tackles on special teams. The team saves $ 1.5 million in capitalization space by refusing Nzeocha’s team option.
