According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers restructured the Weston Richburg center contract, creating $ 6.875 million in salary cap space. Rapoport adds that the veteran striker is likely to retire.

The move gives 49ers nearly $ 32 million in wage cap space, according to OverTheCap.com. Of course, this does not fail in the two-year deal, $ 10.1 million, recently agreed by cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, as the structure of this contract is not yet known.

San Francisco initially signed a five-year, $ 47.5 million contract with Richburg on March 14, 2018, and he started 15 games in his first season with the team. The center suffered a rupture of the patellar tendon during week 14 of the 2019 season, fell into the injured reserve and missed the final stretch of the 49ers race in the Super Bowl.

Richburg started the 2020 season on the reserve / disability list to play and did not appear in any games. He has undergone several surgeries since the injury. In addition to undergoing knee surgery, he had shoulder surgery, which was credited for his setback in 2020. More recently, he underwent hip surgery.

This is the second time that the 49ers have restructured the Richburg contract to create wage cap space. The team did this before December 2019.
