49ers re-sign CB Dontae Johnson

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday that it has re-signed CB Dontae Johnson for a one-year contract.

Johnson (6-2, 200) originally entered the NFL as the second of the two draft choices of the fourth round (129th overall) by the 49ers in the 2014 NFL Draft. Throughout his eight-year career with San Francisco (2014-17 and 2019-20), the Seattle Seahawks (2018), Buffalo Bills (2018), Arizona Cardinals (2018) and Los Angeles Chargers (2019), he appeared in 87 games (25 games) and recorded 170 tackles, 24 defended passes, two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns, and 1.0 sack. Johnson also scored 28 special team tackles.

In 2020, Johnson spent time on the San Francisco training team and on the active roster, where he appeared in 14 games (three games) and ended with 19 tackles, three defended passes and the first sack of his career. He also added eight tackles on special teams.

A 29-year-old native of Pennington, NJ, Johnson studied at North Carolina State University. In 50 games (28 games) over four seasons with Wolfpack, he ended up with 217 tackles, 10 saved passes, 4.0 sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. As a senior in 2013, he started all 12 games and recorded 82 tackles, three interceptions, two defended passes and a forced fumble.
