49ers – NBC Bay Area

Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, home of the San Francisco 49ers, will become the next mass vaccination site for the Bay Area COVID-19, according to the team and the county.

The announcement by 49ers and Santa Clara County on Friday ranked it as the largest vaccination site in California, scheduled to open early next week for county residents, with an initial capacity to vaccinate 5,000 people a day and plans to increase vaccine up to 15,000 as the supply increases.

The 49ers indicated on social networks the site will open Tuesday.

“We recognize the urgent need for an effective and equitable vaccination effort for our community and are proud to partner with Santa Clara County to bring this vaccination site online as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said 49ers President Al Guido in a statement. “We put all the resources at our disposal to meet this challenge to ensure that members of the community in which we live every day can be vaccinated safely and quickly.”

The Levi’s Stadium team, working closely with County Health System leaders, local contractors and healthcare professionals, is preparing the stadium for its inauguration.

Levi Strauss and Co., 49ers’ longtime partner, is also joining efforts, supporting logistical costs to ensure the site is able to go online as soon as possible, the county said.

The site will be staffed and operated by the Santa Clara County Health System, officials said.
