Pro Football Focus has released its latest simulation sketch. Eric Eager and George Chahrouri pushed the San Francisco 49ers out of 12th place and added a few more options in the process. The Washington Football Team uses the selection to add Alabama quarterback Mac Jones after the Pro Football Focus duo has the four best potential players – Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields and Trey Lance – eliminated in 9th choice.
This takes San Francisco to position 19, where the team selects cornerback Jaycee Horn, from South Carolina. It is an area of need, as 49ers can lose several cornerbacks in the free agency. Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett and K’Waun Williams are among those scheduled to hit the open market.
“After negotiating back, the 49ers acquire Horn, who is to replace the late Richard Sherman,” wrote Eager. “Horn has the third lowest percentage of projected adjusted completion allowed in the draft class, in addition to the fifth best projected rate of play (rate of passes interrupted or intercepted).”
Horn recorded 101 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, three sacks, two interceptions, 23 defended passes and two forced fumbles during three seasons with the Gamecocks, by Sports Reference. He recorded 16 tackles, one tackle for a defeat, both interceptions and six passes saved as a junior in 2020.
The NFL’s 2021 Draft is scheduled to begin on April 29.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah made the San Francisco 49ers select former Florida tight end Kyle Pitts in their first mock draft, released last month. In his last mock draft for the NFL.com, the draft analyst has John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan reinforcing his offensive line, adding former Northwestern striker Rashawn Slater. The Trent Williams offensive attack is scheduled to become a free agent next month and will require a high annual salary to stay in San Francisco. It is worth it, however.

Athletic’s NFL writers conducted a mock draft in the first round, with Matt Barrows selecting for the San Francisco 49ers. General manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan own the 12th overall choice and can go in several directions. Some wonder if the team can even make a move to add a new quarterback.
