460 more cases of COVID-19, 27,583 vaccinations reported Saturday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Health reported an additional 460 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state on Saturday, along with an additional 10 deaths and an additional 27,583 administered vaccines.

This leads Utah to 384,173 total cases, 2,101 deaths and 1,289,691 vaccines administered since the start of the pandemic. Of those vaccines administered, 470,905 Utahns are considered “fully” vaccinated – meaning that they received two doses of a vaccine from Pfizer or Moderna, or one dose of an injection from Johnson & Johnson.

Last week, the state recorded an average of 419 more cases per day and a positive test rate of 3.7%. Currently, 137 Utahns are hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 56 in intensive care.

Saturday’s figures come with another 14,289 tests carried out in Utah. Six of the 10 deaths reported on Saturday occurred before March 1, according to the health department. The 10 deaths include:

  • A man from Beaver County between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when he died
  • A Davis County man between 45 and 64 who was hospitalized
  • A man from Salt Lake County between 45 and 64 who was hospitalized
  • A Davis County woman over 85 who was a resident of a long-term care institution
  • A man from Salt Lake County over 85 who lived in a long-term care facility
  • Salt Lake County woman over 85 who lived in a long-term care facility
  • A woman from Utah County over 85 who was not hospitalized when she died
  • A Utah county woman over 85 who was a resident of a long-term care facility
  • A Washington County man between 65 and 84 who was not hospitalized when he died
  • Weber County woman aged 45 to 64 who was hospitalized

The health department’s coronavirus website says there are currently five long-term care facilities in Utah with active outbreaks among residents.

As of Wednesday, all Utahns aged 16 and over are eligible to schedule an appointment to be vaccinated against COVID-19. More information is available at coronavirus.utah.gov/vaccine-distribution.
