412 new cases of COVID-19, 1 death and 12,631 more vaccinations reported Sunday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – In its daily update, the Utah Department of Health reported on Sunday another 412 confirmed cases of COVID-19, one death and another 12,631 vaccines administered in the state.

Overall, this leads Utah to 374,850 cases, 1,976 coronavirus-related deaths and 855,663 vaccines administered since the start of the pandemic. The health department says 309,882 Utahns are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which requires two injections of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines or a dose of the recently approved Johnson & Johnson injection.

The health department reports that 191 Utahns are hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 73 in intensive care. The state is using just over 71% of its total ICU capacity.

Sunday’s figures come with another 8,818 tests. Last week, the state recorded an average of 519 more cases per day and a positive test rate of 4.4%.

The death reported on Sunday was of a man from Cache County between 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when he died. Utah is fast approaching the total of 2,000 coronavirus deaths during the pandemic, but its fortunes have improved over the past month as the distribution of the vaccine has inoculated many of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

As of Monday, all Utahns aged 50 and over will be eligible to schedule a coronavirus vaccine. The vaccine is also available for Utahns with certain underlying diseases. The full list of eligible diseases is available at coronavirus.utah.gov/vaccine.
