LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Michigan (WXYZ) – A 4-year-old girl from North Carolina died in a car accident on Friday while traveling with her family.
On Friday, January 1, at around 11 pm, deputies in the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the north of the US 23 south of Highland Road about the report of a vehicle accident with possible injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 36-year-old father from Fayetteville, North Carolina was operating a 2006 Ford Expedition heading north when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to get off the road and hit several trees. The man’s 33-year-old wife, 8-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were in the vehicle at the time of the accident, deputies said.
During the accident, the driver’s 4-year-old daughter was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to injuries at the scene. Police said the other occupants of the vehicle were removed by Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority officials and taken to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment of the injured.
Speed and alcohol appear to have been the factors of the accident, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident remains under investigation.
