Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, gesticulates after receiving his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the National Institutes of Health, Tuesday, December 22, 2020, in Bethesda, Md.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the country’s leading infectious disease experts, recently told Kaiser Health News which places to avoid as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses.
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that most indoor spaces should be avoided now, according to Yahoo! Life. Specifically, here’s what he said.
- Just don’t go to bars. “Bars are really problematic,” Fauci told Kaiser Health News, according to Yahoo! Life. “I have to tell you, if you look at some of the outbreaks that we saw, that’s when people go to bars, crowded bars.”
- Avoid closed restaurants – especially if it is full. Fauci recommended that people avoid sitting in a restaurant and ordering takeaway food. Restaurants should be especially avoided if they are crowded.
- Beware of hairdressers. Step into the shoes of a hairdresser cautiously, said Fauci. Make sure everyone is wearing masks.
- Avoid internal meetings with people you don’t live with. Fauci said that COVID-19 is spreading mainly in congregated environments.
Fauci warning
Fauci said recently that the new coronavirus pandemic will continue to get worse as we move into winter, as I wrote for Deseret News.
- Fauci told ABC News: “But, you know, this is what happens when you are in a situation where you have peaks related to so many inconsistent factors in adhering to public health measures, the winter months now coming with the cold allowing people or essentially forcing people to do most of their things indoors instead of outside. And travel associated with the holiday season are all ingredients that, unfortunately, contribute to a really dire situation. “
