The Iowa Hawkeyes got things back on track on Tuesday night with a 70-55 victory over our most hated rival – Purdue. The win pushed Iowa to 1-0 in the Big Ten and restarted things after a 99-88 loss to Gonzaga # 1 over the weekend. The Hawkeyes now take their first real road test of the season while traveling to Minnesota.
The Golden Gophers, like Iowa, enter the match 7-1. However, Minnesota’s only defeat came to # 13 Illinois ten days ago. The Gophers have some solid victories under their belt over Boston College and Saint Louis, but they haven’t been tested out of contention with Illini (they’ve also managed to play Loyola Marymount not once, but twice – and two days apart no less!)
They will be commanded by a dynamic guard at Marcus Carr, who arrives with an average of almost 24 points per game. While Iowa will need to slow him down, Minnesota will need to find a way to slow Luka Garza, as he seeks to advance to 18 consecutive Big Ten games with at least 20 points.
