4 candidates to replace Chuck Pagano as defensive coordinator for Bears

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

When looking at rising young defensive coaches, the Bears need to start with defensive line coach Jay Rodgers. Rodgers has been on the team since the John Fox era, and it’s easy to see why, given the defensive line, he was one of the best units during that period.

Rodgers served as a defensive assistant / coach at the 2009-2014 Broncos before joining Fox in Chicago, where he served as a Bears defensive line coach.

Although Rodgers has no defensive coordinator experience like the others on this list, everyone needs to start somewhere. Just look at Brandon Staley, a former Bears external linebacker who became Rams’ defensive coordinator. Chicago should consider Rodgers for the job.
