The continuous average number of positive cases per day over seven days is now about 400 cases per day, according to the health department. It is a drop of six from Saturday, according to updated data.

Utah’s rate has been over 400 new cases per day since September 9, 2020. It reached 3,392 new cases per day in November and 3,258 per day in early January.

Meanwhile, the rate of positive test per day for that time period reported with the “people over people” method is now 7%. The rate of positive test per day, an average of seven days, calculated using the “test on test” method is 3.4%.

The health department said on Sunday that an additional 14,350 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered. In all, about 1.5 million vaccines in total have already been administered in the state.

Nearly 975,000 Utahns received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and the state is expected to exceed 1 million this week. The state reports that 564,824 Utahns were “fully vaccinated”, which means they received both doses of a two-dose vaccine or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a one-dose vaccine.

The health department also reported on Sunday that there are 129 patients with COVID-19 currently hospitalized in Utah due to COVID-19. That’s five less than what was reported on Saturday. Forty-five of these hospitalized patients were in intensive care units.

Sunday’s totals give Utah 387,341 confirmed cases, with 15,608 hospitalizations and 2,132 deaths from the disease since March 2020. The new figures indicate an increase of less than 1% in positive cases since Saturday.

Of the more than 2.4 million people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 1.6% have tested positive for COVID-19.
