33 more Pennsylvania restaurants were closed for not following Governor Wolf’s COVID-19 orders

More restaurants in Pennsylvania are being affected by challenging Governor Tom Wolf’s COVID-19 mitigation orders.

As part of its latest round of inspections, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture announced that it has ordered 33 restaurants closed for allowing customers to eat indoors. The inspections took place from December 21st to 27th.

Under the governor’s most recent mandate, restaurants are not allowed to serve customers indoors for three weeks, ending January 4. In addition, restaurants must continue to follow the rules that require employees to wear masks, while offering takeaway food and takeaway food and serving customers outdoors.

Restaurants that have closed include Denny’s Lennies Restaurant in Halifax, Villa Schiano in Elizabethville and CC’s Kitchen in Mechanicsburg.

The Department of Agriculture conducted 381 inspections. Fifty of these inspections were motivated by complaints registered about non-compliance with COVID-19 mitigation orders. Last week, the department announced that 40 restaurants were closed for contempt.

Other agencies in the state, including the Bureau of Licor Control Enforcement, oversee the application of COVID-19. The agency recently cited dozens of licensed establishments in the state.

Restaurants that continue to challenge closing orders and operate in any way, according to the Department of Agriculture, will be referred to the Pennsylvania Department of Health for further legal action.

On December 23, the Department of Health filed an injunction through the Commonwealth Court against 22 restaurants that continue to challenge the ban on eating indoors, despite having been ordered to close. The injunction requires the closing of restaurants and seeks “compensatory damages and all costs related to compliance with the provisions of the order”.

Complaints, whether general food security issues or those related to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, can be made online.
