3 things Tyson Alualu’s return means to the Steelers

If nothing good came from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ recitation of Tyson Alualu is one of them. Alualu was supposed to be planning to sign with Jacksonville Jaguars this season and the Steelers would have to figure out how to replace him.

But Alualu is back and this is great for the Steelers. Here are the three big things that Alualu’s return means to Pittsburgh.

The injury bug hit the middle of the Steelers defense last season. Internal linebacker Devin Bush along with Alualu wasted time and the entire defense suffered. If the Steelers are going to have Robert Spillane in the middle of the season, Alualu in front of him makes me a lot more comfortable.

The Steelers have significant recruitment needs on both sides of football. Getting Alualu to sign with Pittsburgh could have a serious ripple effect in terms of draft and give the Steelers more of an advantage to focus on the offensive side of the ball early on.

Alualu is now the second Steelers holder facing a free agency to decide to return to Pittsburgh with more money on the table elsewhere. This is the type of culture that winning franchises have.
