3 residents of Cass County die of COVID-19, drop in active cases

Five other North Dakota residents, one from Mountrail counties, Rolette and Stutsman, plus two from Pierce county, were also reported among the victims of the state’s COVID-19. The deceased, five women and three men, were between 60 and 90 years old.

The deaths brought the total number of Northern Dakotans who died as a result of the virus to 1,411. Of the deaths, 1,166 list COVID-19 as the primary cause of death, while 237 others list the virus as a secondary cause or await death records. To date, 1.5% of North Dakota residents who have contracted COVID-19 have died.

Cass County totaled 38 new COVID-19 cases, the department said on Saturday. Bismarck and Burleigh counties and Williston counties reported 21 new cases.

Grand Forks County registered 19 new cases and Minot’s Ward County added 17. Adams, Barnes, Bottineau, Bowman, Burke, Dunn, Hettinger, McKenzie, Morton, Mountrail, Nelson, Pembina, Ramsey, Ransom, Renville, Richland, Rolette, Sargent, The counties of Stark, Stutsman, Towner, Traill and Walsh totaled nine or less new cases each.

A total of 169 positive cases were found in 7,064 new tests for a daily positivity rate of 2.94%.

Active cases across the state stood at 1,161 on Saturday, 23 against the previous day. All four of North Dakota’s most populous counties saw active cases decline over the week.

Cass County reported 203 active cases on Saturday, down 33% from the previous week. Burleigh County active cases fell slightly to 167. Ward County active cases fell 22% to 120, while Grand Forks County active cases dropped to 101 on Saturday, a 26% drop from seven days behind.

Williams County registered 92 active cases on Saturday. Morton County of Mandan had the second highest number of active cases, with 37.

Per capita, rural Adams County, in the southwest corner of the state, leads the state with 104 active cases per 10,000 residents. Two other rural counties, Logan and Slope, totaled zero active cases on Saturday.

Fifty Northern Dakotans are currently hospitalized for COVID-19, the department said.

Across the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded 24,704,417 total cases of COVID-19 and 412,592 deaths attributed to the virus.
