3 new COVID-related deaths in Tuolumne, 1 in Calaveras

Tuolumne County – Tuolumne Public Health reports that their ongoing investigations confirmed that two additional COVID-related deaths occurred in January, a man in his 80s and a woman in his 90s. They also report that an investigation into the death of a woman in the house the 90-year-old who was released from isolation is now also a confirmed COVID-related death. In total, since Friday, Tuolumne County has added six new community cases; two Saturdays and four today. The new cases are of a boy of 17 years or younger, a woman of 18 to 29, a woman and a man of 50 to 59 years of age, a man of 80 to 89 years of age and a woman of more than 90 years of age. Five people were released from isolation, none of whom are currently hospitalized.

Tuolumne County has a total of 4,014 cases divided between 2,598 community cases and the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) inmate cases remain at 1,416. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports that SCC has no COVID-19 positive inmates currently active in the prison. The total number of community cases released from isolation is 2,524 and the total number of tests administered is 78,582. The county reports 24,657 doses of vaccine administered in Tuolumne.

Calaveras County – Public health in Calaveras reports another death for a total of 51 deaths from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. There are five new COVID-19 cases in its report since Friday, with the county’s total cases in 1,972 and active cases decreasing from six to 10. Recoveries have increased from nine to 1,911. The report has no active hospitalizations for COVID-19. In total, 911 men, 1,043 women and 18 without sex reported being infected with COVID-19. The total number of people over 65 identified with COVID has increased by one to a total of 434 since the start of the pandemic.

Vaccines: Tuolumne Public Health will vaccinate people aged 45 and over with the Pfizer vaccine, in addition to other eligible groups tomorrow, March 23rd. They encourage those who are eligible to receive the COVID vaccine as soon as it is available to them. Test: The Mother Lode Fairgrounds test site will be open from Sunday to Thursday, from 7 am to 7 pm, closing on Fridays and Saturdays. The Groveland location is at the Youth Center, 18950 Hwy 120 on Thursdays, from 7 am to 7 pm. State project to reopen: As reported here, Tuolumne is on the Red Layer along with Calaveras. Assessments are made by the state on Tuesday.
