3 Michigan pharmacies participating in the federal vaccination program COVID-19

(WXYZ) – Three Michigan pharmacies are scheduled to participate in the Federal Vaccine Retail Pharmacy Program COVID-19.

The CDC says the program is a collaboration between the federal government, states and territories, along with 21 national pharmaceutical partners and independent pharmacy chains to increase access to the COVID-19 vaccination.

The following pharmacies in Michigan will receive doses of vaccine through the program during the week of February 8:

  • Rite Aid Corp.
  • LeaderNET and Medicine Shoppe, PSAOs from Cardinal Health
  • Meijer Inc.

Pharmacy partners will screen individuals to determine their eligibility for vaccination according to the state’s vaccination plan. They will focus on vaccinating individuals who are eligible for vaccination based on criteria selected by the state.

According to the CDC, partner pharmacies were enrolled based on the population served and the reach of the community, ability to store vaccines and ensure cold chain management, ability to meet data reporting requirements and ability to vaccinate (number estimated daily dose that each facility is capable of delivering.)

CDC worked with states and territories to select initial pharmaceutical partners to start the program in their communities.
