3 lessons from the 19-16 Chargers victory over the Broncos

The Chargers defeated the Broncos on Sunday, taking their third straight victory.

Here are my conclusions from the Los Angeles Week 16 victory:

Absolute greatness

Quarterback Justin Herbert is having one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history. Herbert is now the holder of the most touchdown passes in a debut season (28), after overtaking Baker Mayfield on Sunday.

Herbert also became the fourth rookie quarterback in league history to launch 4,000 yards in a single season. He is only the second defender to throw at least 4,000 yards in his first 14 matches. Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs is the other.

Herbert needs one more against Kansas City this weekend to claim the most notable record – the rookie passing yards record. He needs 340 yards to tie Andrew Luck to 4,374 yards. Facing a secondary school that is likely to be resting its beginners, is feasible.

Herbert’s production and growth as a player has been surprising, but what stands out is that he is closing games, as he led winning attempts in the fourth quarter or in overtime for three consecutive weeks.

It just shows that he will be in the league for a long time.
