The New York Jets are now a decade away from their consecutive game trips for the AFC title. When that rambunctious team, which had just defeated the 14-2 New England Patriots a week earlier, left Heinz Field on a cold January night in Pittsburgh, the fans, as well as many in the organization, really thought they would come back. They were not. In the ten years since that night in 2011, the Jets have endured nothing but recycled coaches and bad football.
In 2021, the Jets seem (key word here) to have taken the first steps to end this era of wineries. New coach Robert Saleh comes from the Bay Area after completely turning 49ers’ defense. Saleh comes with much praise from his former players and was perhaps the main name in this NFL’s 2021 main training cycle.
It’s time for the Jets to add some talent
With Saleh, there come two signings of coordinators who clearly define what they are trying to do on both sides of the ball. Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur (Matt’s brother!), Is bringing another variation on the “Shanahan attack” that we have seen shine in many different spots around the league and work in many different ways. Defensively, Jeff Ulbrich comes from Atlanta and brings someone else from that “Seattle tree” where Saleh started. We can make well-founded assumptions about who this team will be interested in based on their technical team.
With a team as devoid of talents as this, the free agency and the draft are exciting moments. Fans have been doing simulated draft simulations since November. Here we are, more than a month away from the free agency. The Jets will be active again in March, but we hope to be more effective this time.
