3 found shot dead in Dallas after SWAT standoff

Three people were found dead on Sunday night from gunshot wounds after a SWAT clash at an apartment complex in Texas, officials said.

Police in Dallas said officers responded to a report by an active sniper at about 4:30 pm, according to the police. When the police arrived, a sniper fired a gun and hit his vehicle, the police said.

The officers stepped back and immediately called the Dallas SWAT, according to the police.

Dallas police said SWAT officers tried to communicate with the sniper, but their efforts were unsuccessful. At 7 pm, they entered the residence where they found the bodies of two women and a man who died from apparent gunshot wounds, police said. The victims were not publicly identified.

The police said it did not appear that any police officers opened fire and no police officers were injured.

An investigation was underway, the police said. No other details were immediately available.
