3.6-degree earthquake in waters south of Muir Beach

A 3.6-degree earthquake struck about four miles south of Muir Beach, just before 6 am on Thursday.

The earthquake was detected in the ocean, at a depth of almost 9 miles below the surface, according to the US Geological Survey.

People said they felt the bang in San Francisco, Marin, Oakland and San Rafael on social media.

Even on New Year’s Eve, “2020 (is) saying ‘it’s not done yet’, adding a small earthquake to the mix this morning,” Paul Zeidman tweeted from San Francisco.
