SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 259 on Monday, with yet another death and 2,087 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The state now estimates that there are 13,707 active cases of the disease in Utah. The average number of positive cases per day for seven days is now 518, according to the health department. The rate of positive test per day for that period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 9%. The positive test rate per day, averaged over seven days, calculated using the “test over test” method is now 4.4%.
There are now 193 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 74 in intensive care, state data show. About 68% of all beds in intensive care units in Utah are occupied, including about 71% of the ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 50% of non-ICU hospital beds are already occupied, according to state data.
857,750 vaccines have already been administered in the state, compared to 855,663 on Sunday. A total of 556,791 people received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 310,327 are already fully vaccinated, according to the health department. A total of 1,006,315 doses of vaccine have already been sent to Utah.
The new figures indicate a 0.07% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,251,204 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.7% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests carried out since the pandemic began is now 3,917,828, an increase of 5,530 since Sunday. Of these, 3,083 were tests from people who had not taken the previous test for COVID-19, according to the health department.
The death reported on Monday was a man from Washington County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died.
Monday’s totals give Utah 375,109 confirmed cases, with 14,913 hospitalizations and 1,977 total deaths from the disease. A total of 359,425 Utah COVID-19 cases are now being considered recovered, according to the health department.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox is scheduled to provide an update to the pandemic COVID-19 at a press conference at 11 am on Thursday.
