SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 257 on Monday, with five more deaths reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The state now estimates that there are 16,738 active cases of the disease in Utah. There were 4,493 more vaccinations until Monday, the health department said.
The average number of positive cases per day for seven days is now 636, according to the health department. The rate of positive test per day for that period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 11%. The rate of positive test per day, averaged over seven days, calculated using the “test on test” method is now 5.1%.
There are 214 patients with COVID-19 currently hospitalized in Utah, including 89 in intensive care, state data show. About 66% of all beds in intensive care units in Utah are occupied, including about 68% of the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 47% of all non-ICU hospital beds in the state are occupied.
721,029 vaccines have already been administered in the state, compared to 716,536 on Sunday. Of these, 256,554 are second doses of the vaccine.
The new figures indicate an increase of 0.07% in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,208,924 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.8% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests carried out since the pandemic began is now 3,813,782, an increase of 6,517 since Sunday, state data show. Of these, 3,133 were tests from people who had not taken the previous test for COVID-19.
The five deaths reported on Monday include:
- An Iron County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A man from Kane County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- Two men from Salt Lake County who were between 65 and 84 years old and were hospitalized when they died
- A man from Salt Lake County who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when he died
Monday’s totals give Utah 371,492 confirmed cases, with 14,724 hospitalizations and 1,940 deaths from the disease. A total of 352,814 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, according to the health department.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox is scheduled to provide his weekly pandemic update at 11 am on Thursday, according to his office.
