2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV debuts its broad body for the madness of March

When we learned about the GMC Hummer EV pickup, we knew that an SUV would come on the scene. GMC started teasing the electric SUV some time ago, and now the day is officially here. Say hello to the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV, which combines the same cool technology and performance of the truck with the nostalgic old-school Hummer H2.

We will answer the first question you are probably asking. Yes, the SUV offers the same three-engine electric layout as the pickup, with a more economical two-engine version also available later. You won’t feel the same impact as the pickup, however, as GMC estimates the Hummer EV tri-engine SUV with up to 830 horsepower (619 kilowatts). This is less than the 1,000 hp (746 kW) truck, but the torque is still listed as 11,500 foot-pounds (15,592 Newton-meters).

Of course, this is torque on wheels, while typical measurements are made on the engine. Since the Hummer has several engines in place of a single internal combustion engine, some gray areas in the measurement are understood. For a fairer comparison, the wheel’s torque rating should be equal to an axle rating of approximately 1,000 lb-ft (1,356 Nm). This puts the Hummer SUV on a par with heavy-duty diesel pickup trucks, which is still impressive for any application, let alone a luxury SUV.

Speaking of which, you’ll find the same five-passenger interior layout for the SUV as it gets into the truck. The rear section is obviously new and includes a spare part assembled together with a considerable load area. When it comes to features, expect to see the enhanced Super Cruise, the crazy four wheel drive Crabwalk mode, the Extract mode and the explosive Watts To Freedom launch mode. In three-engine Hummers, this will provide a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds when roaming the streets. Off the beaten track, GMC says the Hummer SUV should have the best approach and departure angles in the class, not to mention a 35.4-foot turning circle on 4-wheel steering models.

Buyers looking for maximum brightness will want the Edition 1 model, which comes standard with 22-inch wheels and many customizations. However, it is also available with the Extreme Off-Road package that exchanges large wheels for 18-inch tires wrapped in aggressive 35-inch tires. The package further enhances the Hummer’s off-road with a front eLocker and virtual rear cabinets, reinforced semi-axles, cameras under the body and for protection of vital areas, rock slides and sliding plates. If that is not enough, GMC will have more than 200 accessories available at launch.

Regardless of the finish, GM’s Ultium platform with a capacity of 800v will be below, except for the basic model that uses a 400v system. Range ranges from over 250 miles for basic finishing to over 300 miles for others. Adding the Extreme Off-Road package reduces the range to more than 280 miles, but GMC is keen to remind us that these are preliminary estimates. And, with almost two years until the Hummer SUV goes on sale, there is certainly time to change things.

On that front, the Hummer SUV follows a hierarchy similar to that of the pickup. Edition 1 arrives first, arriving in early 2023 with a starting price of $ 105,595, or $ 110,595 with the Extreme Off-Road package. The Hummer EV 3X and 2X follow in the spring of 2023; the 3X tri-engine starts at $ 99,995 with the 625-hp (466-kW) dual 2X engine starting at $ 89,995. Finally, the dual-engine EV2 will arrive in the spring of 2024 at $ 79,995.
