TF International Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo has published a new report for Apple’s supply chain investors in which the trusted analyst predicts a bold change in the design of what could be the iPhone 14 Pro. Kuo also expects the next release of iPhone SE brings 5G cellular connectivity to low-cost models. Here’s what they predict for 2022.
iPhone SE 5G!
According to the latest Kuo supply chain report, Apple is planning to launch a new iPhone SE model in the first half of next year. The iPhone SE model 2022 will be the first low-cost model to feature the 5G, the next generation cell phone standard that debuted with the iPhone 12 series last fall.
In terms of design, Kuo believes that Apple will retain the current 4.7-inch design that was modeled after the iPhone 8, but a processor upgrade and access to 5G will be the main selling points. The iPhone SE, which currently costs $ 399 in the United States, is expected to be a major boost to the adoption of 5G as buyers in this market segment replace existing phones.
iPhone 14 Pro?
Important changes take place at the tip of the line, of course, and this will continue to be true for the iPhone 14 line (or however Apple markets its main 2022 models). According to Kuo, Apple plans to start replacing the current design introduced with the iPhone X with a new piercing screen design for the iPhone that sounds similar to what Samsung uses on its Galaxy phones.
Presumably, the hole will be for the front camera, creating a full-screen design around it. In the meantime, Apple is expected to update the front camera’s autofocus features in the iPhone 14 model series. All iPhones in the line could adopt this perforating screen design if product yields allow, although Kuo will restrain himself and say that at least the high-end models (presumably Pro) will adopt it in the second half of next year.
If Kuo’s prediction is confirmed, it may be that the iPhone 13 Pro replacements will be the first to adopt this new design, while the successors of the iPhone 13 retain their design that comes this fall. Unsurprisingly, the analyst believes that the growth of the iPhone in 2022 will depend on these next-generation iPhones.
