2021 Oscars: lists in 9 categories at the 93rd Oscars

The academy released the 2021 Oscar finalist lists in nine categories on Tuesday, February 9. Aspirants to a wide range of races have found out whether they are still in the running for the 93rd annual Academy Award. Among them are the outstanding categories of Best International Feature Film (which was reduced to 10 films out of 93 applicants) and Best Documentary Feature Film (which went from 238 to 15).

Both musical awards – Best Original Song and Best Original Soundtrack – were reduced to just 15 contestants, of more than 100 entries each. The races for Best Makeup and Hairstyle and Best Visual Effects, as well as the three awards for shorts – animation, documentary and live-action – were selected from dozens of entries for 10 each.

Two hundred and thirty-eight films were eligible for consideration; there are 15 on the list. Members of the Documentary Branch vote to determine the list of candidates and nominees. The films, listed in alphabetical order by title, are:

Ten advanced films. Members of the makeup and hairdressing industry will be invited to view 7-minute portions of each of the selected films on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Members will vote to nominate five films. The films, listed in alphabetical order by title, are:

Ten films remain on display in the Visual Effects category of the 92nd Oscar. The Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the list. All members of the visual effects business will be invited to view 10-minute portions of each of the selected films on Saturday, March 6, 2021. After the screenings, members will vote to nominate five films for the Oscar’s final consideration. The films, listed in alphabetical order by title, are:
