The car, truck and utility vehicle of the year 2021 in North America was announced in Detroit.
Annual awards are voted on by a panel of journalists from the United States and Canada.
The Hyundai Elantra was voted the car of the year ahead of the Genesis G80 and Nissan Sentra, while Ford won the honors in the truck and utility categories with the F-150 and the electric Mustang Mach-E.
“This is really special for us, because if you are going to create a new Mustang, you cannot mess it up. And I am absolutely thrilled with the product that our team delivered,” said Ford President Kumar Galhotra, during a live broadcast event .
“It represents the future of our company.”
The F-150’s victory marks the sixth time he has received the Truck award, while the Hyundai Elantra won the Car category in 2012.
